As a writer, TV personality and founder of the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund, there's nothing Laura Posada can't do. For that and more, she joins our list of Miami "Women of Influence."
As a life coach and motivational speaker, you give out so much good advice. What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? LAURA POSADA: My mother-in-law told me that, if you set your mind to it, being 40 could be the best stage of a woman’s life. This helped me to set a goal and was the origin of the #40isthenew20, a project that makes me very proud because I know I have helped thousands of people to set new goals and feel happier in this second half of their life.
Fitness and nutrition are a big part of your story. LP: I’ve always been aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Exercise was one of my weapons against the crisis my family went through after the diagnosis of my eldest son with craniosynostosis, when he was just 10 days old. Thanks to exercise, I was able to be physically and mentally healthy to be next to my son in those hard moments.
Tell us about the work you and your husband [Jorge Posada] do for Puerto Rico. LP: We created the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund from the moment we saw the consequences of Hurricane Maria. In the beginning, it was just our contribution, and then we started to collect donations from thousands of people that were interested in helping. We focused on carrying patients with urgent medical needs to the United States.
Is the work done? How can we help? LP: Visit the island to give the economy a boost; take advantage of the trip and have unforgettable holidays on the Island of Enchantment!
