Microsoft Surface has announced its new partnership with Beatport to create the new app, Originals². Beatport is a virtual platform that connects and inspires DJs and electronic dance fans around the world. Microsoft Surface's collaboration with Beatport allows fans and DJs to connect across the world, offering virtual concerts, DJ collaborations and more.

Jamie Jones will kick off the Originals² “Party Mode” launch at Art Basel Miami this year on December 2. "I’m excited to be pioneering the ‘party mode’ on Beatport DJ at Art Basel,” said Jones. Party Mode allows up to four DJs from anywhere in the world to collaborate on sets and communicate virtually.

The Originals launch concert will take place on the beach outside the 1 Hotel, but the concert will be streamed across Originals²’s platforms. Jones’ set will be followed by Loco Dice, who is performing in Berlin. “The fact that it will be a trans-Atlantic b2b with Loco Dice in Berlin and me in Miami is super cool,” Jones added.

Not only does Originals allow DJs to connect virtually, but the Microsoft and Beatport team also designed a series of educational courses for selected creatives. These educational opportunities will be held at world-renowned recording studios in Miami and Berlin. Microsoft Teams will aid the DJs by connecting the two studios virtually, allowing for collaboration amongst those in Miami and Berlin. Come 2022, there will be a second academy centered around mixing competitions. These competitions will help source the best possible emerging talent from around the globe.

Vice President of Beatport Group, Ed Hill expressed that the inspiration for this collaboration came out of the pandemic. “The music industry has adapted incredibly in reaction to the pandemic, which inspired us to build the new DJ Party Mode feature on our popular Beatport DJ web app to enable musicians to collaborate on DJ sets, no matter where they are in the world. Microsoft Surface has been a fantastic partner to optimize the experience for DJs with their innovative hardware and software,” said Hill.
