Fall is not just about the wardrobe, but everything from your hair down to your nails needs to be seasonally up-to-date. We asked Miami’s beauty experts to give us a fresh look on what’s in store this fall season—from micro needling to floral nails, you’ll be looking like a model right off the runway.
It's time to swap out that summer makeup bag and fill it up with all things fall. One trend that’ll be front and center this season is the monochromatic makeup look. Sephora Lead Artist, Ilde Goncalves, says the way to achieve this popular and sophisticated look comes down to finding color harmony with the lips, eyes, and cheeks. “Select one color and play with its different shades, tones, and tints,” Goncalves adds, “For example, if you select the color orange, you can use with shades like peach, apricot, warm taupes, pumpkin, and rich deep browns.” Be adventurous and try out a dramatic lip for fall— think browns, reds, and burgundy, as they are quick to draw attention to your pout. Goncalves recommends Sephora’s Rouge Cream Lipstick ($13) or NARS Power Matte Lip Pigment ($26). And don’t miss out on the metallic trend for your lids! “I especially love to highlight the inner corner of the eyes with a champagne shadow and then place a copper metallic shade on the center of lid,” says Goncalves, “This technique will give you a beautiful finish that looks amazing for all occasions!”
The summer season takes its toll on our tresses in a harsh way, so come fall, it’s time to give them some extra lovin. “At the end of the summer, when our hair has been through all the damages of the sun rays, chlorine, and salt water, I suggest giving your hair a good conditioning treatment to start,” says stylist Emiliano De Pasqual. Then it’s on to color and cut! Time to warm up the mane with deep reds, warm chocolate, and caramel tones this fall season. De Pasqual takes into consideration the client’s skin tone and features to determine which color would work best to make sure everything is in harmony. As far as style, its about movement and a timeless cut!. “I’ve been doing a lot of texturizing to add just the right movement,” adds De Pasqual, “I love layers around the face to add softness and dimension not just to the cut, but also to facial features.” DePascual encourages women to get playful and try some hair accessories like a tassel or a pearl comb; which, have been seen all over the runway for fall. De Pasqual is currently obsessing over Lelet NY, whose pearlized crown was just seen on former Ocean Drive cover girl, Chrissy Tiegen.
Nothing takes a more brutal beating during the summer than our skin, and to get our face fresh and fall ready, we go to the expert, Caleb McGrew of Skin by Caleb. “We live in the land of perpetual summer; but, fortunately, moving into our version of fall means we get a small respite from soaring temperatures and soggy humidity,” says Mc Grew, “However, it is time to start thinking about some corrective procedures to help reverse or mitigate some of the sun damage we might've incurred in the summer months.” One procedure that will have you putting your best face forward this fall is Microneedling. Also known as collagen induction therapy, it’s main purpose is to stimulate the collagen production systems in our bodies. McGrew favors this procedure, because unlike lasers and peels, which are not always safe for darker skin tones, Microneedling is safe to use on all skin types. The benefits are miraculous, says McGrew, and its a great alternative to injectibles. They include smoothed fine lines and wrinkles, reduced acne scars or any other types of scarring, reduced hyper pigmentation, and general skin tightening and rejuvenation. As far as the treatment, discomfort is minimal thanks to numbing cream. One last thing, says McGrew. Don’t forget the sunscreen. Your face will thank you. McGrew also specializes in Microblading and Microshading for brows, and Scalp Micro-pigmentation (a procedure done to reverse the appearance of hair loss in men and women).
A good brow goes a long way, but let’s face it, as we age, hair growth begins to slow down and the density of our brows also begin to lose their ‘Brooke Shields’ effect. That doesn’t mean all hope is lost for us, just ask certified brow artist, Dee Reategui of Browista Beauty. There’s a reason Reategui books up months in advance, her microblading technique makes her a fan-favorite (microblading is completed in two sessions for a total of $700). With fall just around the corner, she’s seeing more and more people asking for the service. “Waking up to perfect brows every single day, any woman's dream, right?” says Reategui, “Microblading is ideal for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their eyebrows, and the results are natural-looking hair-like strokes, regardless of the amount of the hair you currently have.” It is done by using a very fine blade to deposit pigment into the epidermis. Because the color is closer to the surface, the strokes appear crisp and very fine. There is no spilling under the skin and it’s semi-permanent. The most important factor when it comes to the procedure, adds Reategui, is making sure you find a great artist that is certified (think of it as an investment in your appearance).
Nails have been making quite the statement in fashion this season (just ask Gucci, Marc Jacobs, and Jeremy Scott to name a few) and thanks to Miami nail atelier, Vanity Projects, your nails can also be runway-ready for fall. Owner Rita Pinto says graphic looks like polka dots, stripes, florals, and color blocking, are in high demand. “We are going to continue to see a lot of requests for designer prints like Gucci and Valentino,” says Pinto. Floral nail art is also a popular request. With fall, we say goodbye to the banana leaves and pineapples, and make way for moodier and darker floral patterns. “Floral nails can be very chic on a short nail and its a versatile trend,” Pinto adds. Another trend we will continue to see? Metallic and glitters that are eye-grabbing and sure to give your fall wardrobe an extra wow factor. If you’re feeling bold, why not try out an oval-shaped nail this fall? It elongates the look of the finger and gives the hands a gentle extension. The artists at Vanity Projects can fulfill any request.
