Natalie Martinez (@iamnataliemartinez) is making waves with her compelling role in the latest Apple TV+ series, Bad Monkey, which premiered this summer. Directed by Bill Lawrence and based on Carl Hiaasen’s novel, the drama follows a detective entangled in a mysterious case involving a severed arm, with Martinez portraying a crucial Miami medical examiner. Tell us about filming BadMonkey. What was your favorite part? Aside from getting to film in my hometown, my favorite part of shooting Bad Monkey was being surrounded by such incredible talent. Working with legends like Vince [Vaughn] and Bill [Lawrence], along with the rest of the uniquely amazing cast, was an honor.
How did you prepare for this role? On set, a coroner guided me through the procedures and protocols for handling a cadaver, which was crucial for authenticity. As for the character of Rosa, the preparation felt very natural. She’s so close to who I am, especially with her Miami roots—being raised there, I already had the lingo, accent and vibe down.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career? Always stay true to yourself. No matter the role or the pressures of the industry, maintaining authenticity and bringing your unique perspective to every character sets you apart.

What do you love about Miami/South Florida? Is there anything you’d recommend or enjoyed from when you lived here? The culture. Miami is a true melting pot, where diverse influences from Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond create a unique and dynamic atmosphere. From the music and art to the food and festivals, every aspect of life here reflects this rich blend of cultures, making it an incredibly lively and colorful place to live or visit. I always have to have my Frankie’s pizza when I return home.
What’s next? I’m currently shooting an independent film in the Dominican Republic—it has a fun script and great cast!
