After being crowned Miss Universe in 2012, Olivia Culpo’s life has not slowed down in the slightest bit. The model-turned-mogul has used her platform to bridge a plethora of industries. From cosmetics to fashion and the world of food, Culpo has shown she's not just a pretty face.
On Maxim’s recent Hot 100 List for 2019, you came in as number one. What does it mean to be the sexiest woman alive?
OLIVIA CULPO: I think it’s still sinking in! Honestly it was more about following suit of some women that have been on the cover of magazines like Maxim and Sports Illustrated and have gone on to have such amazing brands. It was something I definitely dreamt about but never imagined it would come true. We celebrated earlier in the month at Miami Swim Week and it was a blast.
You bravely talked about your tougher times on Instagram recently. Why did you want to share that with your fans?
OC: I think it’s important to show people that Instagram really is a highlight reel and not always the full story. I believe that everyone has moments of trials and doubts. I say it over and over but we are all more alike than we realize. I wanted to express that it is okay to have down moments, but for me, it’s about persevering and seeking insight to bring yourself back to center. I am so thankful for the people around me, who accept me as I am and the more I am honest with everyone, including myself, the easier it is for me to learn and grow.
Your fans have access to you on YouTube where you speak about beauty, fashion, wellness, and answer any questions that your fans may have. What was the most interesting question a fan has asked you that prompted a video? What video surprised you in terms of audience engagement?
OC: A lot of people are really interested in my beauty and skincare favorites and routines. I have found I get the most positive feedback on those videos. Someone asked that I have my brother on the channel with his mouth moving but me talking... I am still working on figuring that one out! Comment on my videos and let me know what else you want to see.
When you start the day do you have any beauty routines or rituals?
OC: I always make sure to drink a ton of water to start my day. Oftentimes, I add lemon to my water if I have it available. Your body dehydrates all night so it’s crucial to replenish.
You know summer is a great time to have a cocktail. Tell me about your favorites?
OC: My favorite cocktail this summer has been the Bacardi Lime Cooler, which I have been serving in a homemade watermelon punch bowl. Aesthetically, it takes your party to the next level. The cocktail is made with Bacardi Lime, watermelon liqueur, lime juice, simple syrup and club soda. I also really love that you can pre-batch this cocktail because it lets you spend more time with your guests. For those of you who want to try it out, check out the video I posted on my YouTube channel that shows how to mix it up at home!
You grew up in a restaurant family. I imagine there are some perks to that since your drink is also served there, no?
OC: Absolutely! We recently added my Summer Sangria to the menu at our restaurant, Back40 Kitchen, in Rhode Island. My brother, who is the bartender, and I experimented with different combinations adding fun twists to classic recipes, so this was my take on a sangria. It’s made with Bacardi Lime, pomegranate liqueur, lemonade and topped with Prosecco—it’s the perfect drink to sip on a hot summer day.
When you have downtime in Miami, where can we find you eating, shopping, staying, having fun?
OC: I love to try new places so I’m always looking for recommendations. Earlier in the month, I celebrated at Katsuya in the SLS Hotel and it was fun. I also really like Swan. I’ve heard the Faena is a beautiful hotel but I haven’t gotten to visit just yet. Oh, does anyone have any recommendations for the best Cuban food in Miami?
