When Miami-based restaurateur and chef José Mendín is behind a new culinary concept, it’s safe to assume it will be a hit. If it’s Italian? Even better. Closing down his former La Placita eatery and relaunching an alfresco Italian paradise, Patio Isola, Mendín presents the sister concept to his beloved Sunset Harbour Casa Isola.
Famed for its mouthwatering homemade pasta, arancini and carpaccio, fans of the original concept will flock to the latest opening, spanning 8,000 square feet on Biscayne Boulevard and 67th Street. Featuring its emblematic garden patio, the space is complete with lush vegetation, rustic furniture and fixings, offering ample space to come, mingle and enjoy delicious cuisine with great company. Whether seeking a night out or a comfort meal that provides a home away from home, Patio Isola is a true locals’ paradise.

Creating a charming and authentic space was key for Mendín in the conceptualization of his new brainchild. “We’re keeping the cozy, homegrown mood that La Placita established but taking it into a different direction.”
With the idea of the quintessential Italian coast in mind, he and partners Santo Agnello, Sergio Navarro, Jose Luis Serrato, Julian Gil and Antonio Ortiz ensured this culture was achieved, from the decor and atmosphere to the food and drinks menus.

On the menu, explore through brimming bowls of rigatoni alla vodka; housemade pizzas cooked in the restaurant’s pizza oven that feature flavor-bursting ingredients from pastrami to braised short rib, roasted baby kale, ricotta and long hot peppers; cheesy garlic bone marrow with a side of homemade focaccia; zuppa di clams with Calabrian chiles; and so much more. To complement the expertly balanced dishes, peruse the cocktail menu, which ranges from aperitifs and spritzes to Negronis and Bellinis in true Italian fashion.
An embodiment of love, Patio Isola does more than just provide a delicious menu to be enjoyed any day or night of the week. With its patio garden, it serves as a gathering destination to bask in a shared passion among old friends and new. Mangia bene! 6789 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, @patioisola
