Although we may have sunshine all year round, there’s nothing that says summer quite like beach vacations, chic resortwear, wedding festivities and more. This calls for us to look and feel our best. Oftentimes, it’s hard to squeeze in a good workout on the go or during travels. To learn some of the best ways to maintain your regimen, we speak with Miami-based fitness trainer and professional boxer Pierre Nance (@frenchie256), who also happens to be part of web-based fitness platform Motto (@bookmotto). The personal training booking system gives access to some of the greatest fitness instructors in select cities, making workouts easier than ever. Find Nance’s summer fit tips here.

Why were you attracted to get involved with a company like Motto?
Motto gives me the opportunity to expand my brand and business by offering my expertise to a broader audience and also providing me with a tool to help manage my client roster. Motto also gives the users more flexibility because it allows the customer to connect with their trainer of choice. I think Motto will change the fitness industry with the convenience for people to find quality, trusted trainers.

Tell us some tips for staying in shape this summer, especially for those on the go. What are some easy workouts that you can do at any time, any place?
Fitness bands and your own body weight are all you need to keep yourself in shape this summer. Focus on full-body for anytime- and anyplace-type of workouts! Bands are great for body sculpting with bridges, mule kicks, fire hydrants, clam shells, side leg raises, squats and squatted pulse. For body weight, focus on simple exercises. Try 30 pushups and 30 triceps dips (bench or chair) a day to get your arms toned and beach-ready. Don’t forget core work—50 each core exercise—crunches, side crunches and bicycle crunches followed by 30-second side planks and one-minute regular plank to keep your core tight! Doing this, all of these or a combination of these ideas, a few times a week is all you need.
You specialize in boxing. What does your background in the sport look like, and how do you bring that expertise to your clients?
I am an undefeated professional boxer who fights under hall of fame coach Jorge Rubio. I create a fun boxing experience that’s physically rewarding and mentally challenging that keeps you engaged while learning a new skill. I also strength train with weights and can incorporate that into a unique hybrid training experience.

Aside from working out, what are some other ways to stay in shape this summer, in terms of diet, activities, sleep, etc.?
Staying consistent is the key. Being consistently active, such as going on walks or going swimming, paired with constantly eating healthier dishes at least 80% of the time, will keep you in shape this summer. You have to adjust to a healthier mindset in order to create this lifestyle. Also remember to leave some room to enjoy your summer. We are all human!

What is your favorite part of your job?
I honestly don’t look at this as a job or look at myself as a trainer. I look at myself as a fitness guide. My favorite part is guiding people to be a better version of themselves—getting them to make a mental connection with their bodies to ultimately reach their physical goals. I also love the relationship that is built during this process with each client
