Sarv Kannapiran grew up in a small town in central Ohio as a child. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Williams College and his MBA from Duke University at the Fuqua School of Business. He went on to work in various fields before realizing it was time for a change. This prompted him to change career paths to the medical industry.
Kannapiran went on to become the founder and CEO of Nutritist, a company that makes evidence-based supplements, including Refluxter. Refluxter is a novel, nature-based product derived from seaweed to treat acid reflux and heartburn.
Kannapiran's Background
While he was in his last year of medical school, Kannapiran developed a form of acid reflux called GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). His physician at the time told him that he would have to take a prescription medication called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) for the rest of his life to control it.
Not long after, fear began to take hold. As a result, he worked to find an alternative to the medication that was recommended to him. He researched hundreds of clinical papers to determine if there was a safer alternative. He discovered that, in Europe, a substance called alginate was derived from seaweed and used to treat acid reflux.
"This is a viscous substance that, when combined with calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, reacts with stomach acid to form a temporary foam "raft" that floats on top of stomach acid at the junction between the stomach and esophagus," Kannapiran says. "This raft physically blocks acid from refluxing for up to 4 hours."
The Success of Refluxter
Refluxter is a natural, preservative-free, and sugar-free product that uses the same ingredients in the dosages outlined in clinical research studies. Kannapiran states that the current incarnation of Refluxter is the second version, as the first version was "too chewy" and filled with sweeteners to help people tolerate the taste. Trial and error and about two years of testing made it available in capsule form.
Utilizing sodium alginate food grade, Nutritist Refluxter is a product that uses food-grade sodium alginate to help relieve symptoms of acid reflux, GERD, heartburn, and silent reflux aka LPR. This natural, sugar-free, and artificial sweetener-free product works with ingredients tested to provide up to four hours of relief from symptoms. Just two capsules with water after meals or before bedtime makes it a convenient addition to one's wellness regimen. There are no known side effects associated with Refluxter, it can be taken long term, and it is safe for pregnant women.
Kannapiran says that his future endeavors with Nutritist involve expanding the company to sell multiple supplements. He adds that he's already begun receiving emails from happy customers telling him how much Refluxter has helped them. As he describes, "the best part of his job."
Those interested in trying Refluxter for themselves can find the product on Amazon.com.
