With her musical journey beginning at the age of 9, the childhood dreams of Florida-born singer-songwriter Skylar Star Stecker (@skylarstecker) are coming true amid the debut of her newest album, Earth Signs. With a fiery passion for producing genuine music, Stecker spotlights her fearlessness through emotionally charged lyrics and a powerful performance energy.

What has been some of the feedback from your newest album release, Earth Signs?

I believe that the people who listened to my EP felt my transparency and noticed that I was writing from a real place. This was the first time I have showcased a more personal side of myself. Looking back, I had an initial fear that people wouldn’t like what I have to say. However, there was also another side of me that said, ‘Screw it, I’m not playing it safe anymore.’ I went for it and received a lot of positivity in return.

When did you begin writing music?

I started singing and writing music when I was 9. I sang hundreds of anthems at sporting events and took any opportunity to perform in order to help me gain confidence. This led to a lot of collaborations with more experienced artists and songwriters. I became a sponge, trying to absorb everything I could while simultaneously figuring out who I was as an artist.

Do you prefer to perform or to write?

I do love the entire music-making process, but nothing beats performing live and discovering new ways to bring your music to life.

Favorite Miami destinations?

South Beach! I love the diversity of people, the colorful and electric vibe and the food along the strip. There is no place like it in the world!
