From the beaches to the restaurants, outdoor shopping centers and more, Miami isn’t just a destination for beach holidays, it is becoming a desirable filming location for many hit television shows and movies. Surrounded by beautiful blue water, a rich culture and history, many set themselves here in the Sunshine State. Here are five TV series that have been filmed across Miami and South Florida showing off all the city has to offer and beyond.
The Miami set and filmed HBO Series, Ballers, follows Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s character of being a retired NFL player and his attempts towards a new career in financial management. The show hits Miami hot spots, including Komodo and the W South Beach.
With a combination of filming in Miami and Long Beach, the first portion of the series was filmed and set here in the Magic City. The main character, Dexter, played by Michael C. Hall, lived in the Bay Harbor Club Condos, looking over beautiful Biscayne Bay. Throughout the seasons, Bayfront Park Fountain, Doral Park Country Club and Ocean Drive all make memorable appearances.
Magic City
Telling the story of a glamorous Miami hotel and its owner during the late 1950s, Magic City brings history to television. With the glitz and glam of vintage cars, costumes, makeup and more, the series creator, Mitch Glazer, brought a sense of nostalgia from that iconic era to the Miami-based and set show.
While the first few seasons are based in New York City, Miami becomes home for the third season. The Emmy Award-Winning and highly bingeable series features the popular Fontainebleau Hotel as a crucial location, bringing once again a sense of nostalgia to 1950s Miami.
Bloodline
Just a few hours south of Miami, filmed in the Florida Keys, Bloodline gives stunning views and of course crystal clear bright blue water. The series was shot on a variety of private beaches, private residences and cafes, the filming throughout Islamorada and the neighboring Keys evoke a true sense of South Florida.
