Miami Heat star Tyler Herro has a one-track mind to a championship win.
When NBA player Tyler Herro (@nolimitherro) entered his rookie season with the Miami Heat in 2019, he made noise, garnering the nickname “Baby GOAT.”
Averaging 13.5 points per game with 4.1 rebounds and shooting 38.9% from the 3-point range, Herro was an integral part of the team’s tremendous season where they came out as Eastern Conference champions and made it all the way to the finals.

Since then, he’s continued this momentum, and in the 2021-2022 season, he received the honorary Sixth Man of the Year award—a title given to the best-performing, nonstarting player in the regular season of the NBA.
“It wasn’t a goal of mine to be the Sixth Man, but once I received the honor, it was very rewarding,” Herro notes. “However, I want to be a starter in the league, so that’s what I’m focusing on.”
As for his goals, one thing is clear: He wants to win a championship. After coming within arm’s reach of the finals—only one game away from making it before their loss to the Boston Celtics—Herro and his teammates are more determined than ever to get there.

“We were one game away from the finals—to be able to get ourselves in that position is key. We’re returning with a lot of the same guys, and I feel like we have an opportunity to run it back and get ourselves into championship form.”
To do this, Herro has been hitting his workouts three times per day in the off season.

“I start super early in the morning, like 5AM, and usually do two to three additional workouts throughout the day. Other than that, I took a month and a half off after the season to give my body a rest. But now I’m working hard again, getting ready for another big jump,” he notes.
Aside from Herro and the team’s superior talent and dedicated work ethic, their undeniable chemistry is what makes the team so formidable and unique in the NBA.

“We have a really special chemistry. It’s not like any other organization in the NBA,” says Herro. “We take pride in being one and together. It’s something that we believe in and get done. Our locker room is business when it’s time to be business and fun when it’s time to have fun.”
In terms of fun, when Herro isn’t on the court working, he enjoys spending his off -time with his family. With his 9-month-old daughter Zya and a second baby on the way—which he and partner Katya Elise Henry recently announced with an adorable Instagram post—the 22-year-old takes his role as father as seriously as his NBA title.

“When I have free time, I just want to hang out with my family, my daughter. We spend time together, whether it’s going to the beach, taking a walk, going outside, listening to music, relaxing—knowing that basketball is still my job but taking care of my family is key. I try to set a balance,” he notes.

On raising a family in Miami, he easily asserts that there’s no city he’d rather be. From the beaches to the warm weather year-round, he finds it’s the ultimate setting for his family to thrive.
His off-court passions don’t end there— Herro is also a lover of fashion and has made a name for himself as a style icon. In 2021, he received Sports Illustrated’s Best Dressed Athlete award—a major honor, given the NBA players’ major dive into the space in recent years.
“I try to keep my style as classy as possible,” he shares. “I like being clean-cut, but I’m open to really wearing anything—I don’t shy away from expressing myself through my fashion sense. I feel like fashion is a form of art and expressing myself through the medium is like painting a picture.”

“For me, fashion is something I take pride in. It’s fun for me,” says Herro. “I’m really inclusive when it comes to what I wear. I have a stylist I work with during the season, and she introduces me to different brands, so my style evolves every day.”
He pairs these looks with accessories, like his favorite pearl necklace or a pair of shades.

Although Herro notes that he loves to splurge on his fashion purchases, it’s also important for him to give back, which is why he created the T. Herro Foundation. With a mission statement of “empowering the heroes of tomorrow,” Herro and the foundation work to create impactful experiences for the youth and as many families as possible in the local Miami area.
“Our main goal is to give back to less fortunate children, and we do so by holding events throughout the year—whether it’s back-to- school events, holiday parties, turkey drives for thanksgiving— we’re focused on giving back to our community,” he shares. “The best part is seeing the smiles on people’s faces.”

Children are clearly an important element of Herro’s life, and his own is what motivates him to get up every day and work to his maximum potential.
“My daughter is my greatest motivation,” he shares. “Once she was born, everything changed. She is always at the back of my mind for every living second, knowing I have purpose and who I’m doing it for.”
He credits his family and support system for helping him achieve the balance of fatherhood and professional basketball player. And he’s more determined than ever to bring home the title—for not only himself but his team, his family and the Miami community as a whole.
“If you put your mind to something, you can accomplish anything. If you really do it and set your goal, it’ll happen,” he says.
“So that means we’ll come off with a championship win this year?” I ask.
With a smile, he asserts, “Oh, we will.”
