What was the toughest part of building your brand?
The toughest part of building Valeria Inc. was building it in an industry that was still growing and changing with constant unknowns. There were very few influencers who took the route of building a media company around themselves, so finding the talent and people while creating a road map for the process was very much a trial-and-error journey.
What prompted you to get certified as a holistic nutritionist? What did you learn about yourself during this time?
When I got pregnant with my first son and could no longer model, I was looking for ways to expand myself and acquire information that would help my family and me, which is how I stumbled upon holistic nutrition. You naturally want to make sure you are providing your body with the proper nutrients to grow a healthy baby, but I also wanted to know what to do once the baby was born and how I should support myself nutritionwise as I get older. As I went into holistic nutrition, I became very immersed in the holistic aspect of living. It taught me to connect to my body and listen to it, making me realize how your mind and emotions affect your body and vice versa.
What does your wellness regimen look like?
My wellness regimen is very simple these days because I realized that to make these healthy habits into a lifestyle, it has to be realistic and attainable for me since I’m a very busy mom of three boys. I always start my morning with lemon water or a big glass of water, no matter what. I eat intuitively and don’t stick to any crazy restrictions, but I also make sure each meal has protein, fiber and healthy fats. I also incorporate some meditative activity every day. I love Pilates and weight training and usually work out four to five days per week.

What are five beauty products you can’t live without?
When it comes to beauty, I love my oil cleansing routine, and my go-to is the Tata Harper nourishing oil cleanser. The Alastin HydraTint Pro mineral sunscreen SPF 36 and Dior Forever Skin Correct are musts! I also love the Code8 5Secs Express Lip & Cheek product—I use it for my lips, cheeks and sometimes as eyeshadow. The Lancome Absolue revitalizing and brightening soft cream always brings my skin back to life, especially when traveling.
How do you balance your career and motherhood?
Balance is a funny concept as it’s ever-changing. When I was younger, I used to believe that it would look like a very specific thing, but as I’m getting older, it is more about intuition and self-awareness that drives this balance in my life. When I’m in tune with myself, I see where my attention is needed most in that specific time. Sometimes I need to lean more into my family, other times more into the business, so I keep myself very open. It’s constant navigation. Another thing I think is crucial is help and asking for it. As women, I think it’s hard for us to ask, but I’ve realized that there’s no novelty in doing everything yourself, especially when it runs you into the ground.
